May 11th
I really hope all the moms got their awesome present yesterday! I also hope that all my students love remembering each new month's artwork, and how much their teacher loves them! This week will be the start of the end-of-year activities. Mrs. Bellitti posted on Dojo School Story and emailed the calendar of upcoming events. I will also put it here on the website, in a new tab "Activities". I will still have Zoom meetings, but only once a week, not twice in one day as I have done before. I will post meeting times and information on Dojo.
New school work will officially end tomorrow, but I will keep resources listed on this website for those who need to make up work. I will be gathering all the information from the middle of March until now, and putting together a progress report with estimated grades for each student. Then on Wednesday, I will send those out and open a sign up for one-on-one conference's if you have any questions or concerns. May 13th-21st will be a "make up" time. If you are happy with your student's grades, you can just enjoy the end of year activities. Grades are due May 22nd by 9pm, so I will not be accepting any work on the 22nd. My grading criteria are as follows: if I was able to gather enough evidence of learning before online learning began, I will give the 1-4 grades as usual. If I didn't gather enough data, or the content was only taught during online learning, then I will do Pass / Needs Improvement. If there was no effort, or evidence of a lack of understanding, I will give Needs Improvement. Otherwise, I will give a Pass. I hope this make sense, and I hope you find it fair. I will include grading criteria information again on the Progress Report I send to you on Wednesday. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding grades. Now, on to more fun stuff! Today and tomorrow, I will only require that you read 20 minutes and work in GoMath in the Preparing for 3rd Grade section (very end of the book). The 20 minutes of reading can be done on Wonders, Lexia, Sora, Epic, or with physical books. You can also listen to me read Harry Potter on the CHALLENGE page. I will link GoMath pages each day in case you can't find your book, or need replacement pages. I do NOT need photos of your work. You can also still work on iReady Green lessons after you finish your diagnostic test. Please do your best on these tests. If I feel you rushed or didn't give your best effort, I will reassign it so you can prove what you really know. Don't forget that Learning Fair and Talent Show are due this week. You can take a picture of your science project or of something you've learned during our online learning time for the Learning Fair. Just get your pictures to me, by email or Dojo, by May 13th. For the Talent Show, you can submit photos or videos up to 30 seconds long to Mrs. Shanks by email ([email protected]) by May 15th. Today's question... If you could only use one word to describe 2nd Grade, what would it be? Some examples might be awesome, weird, cool, strange, long, short, boring, amazing... I really want to know what you think, so I will tell you my answer tomorrow! This week in GoMath, we are doing the Getting Ready For 3rd Grade section at the end of your homework worksheet book. You can choose any lesson each day, but I will be posting 2 each day to choose from-you will need to download both sides of the lesson's page of you aren't doing it in your book. You also need to complete the online end-of-year diagnostic test on iReady by May 21st. Getting Ready For 3rd Grade Lessons Lesson 1 Lesson 2
For Reading this week, you just need to read for 20 minutes everyday. I will assign the Wonders Unit 6 Week 5 stories so you can have some options, but they aren't really "Due" this week.
Please check in with me if you are struggling with anything! I am here to help! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make things easier, smoother, better, happier, etc! I miss you all, and can't wait to see you again. Love, Mrs. Cobabe |
