April 13th
WELCOME BACK! I hope you had a great Spring Break. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things pretty quickly, so we are keeping the same format as before. We will be changing a few things here and there, but mostly just do the same things each day as before.
Today's question... What are you most proud of from the break? Did you do or learn anything that you are especially happy about? I got so many projects done around my home and some as service. It felt so good to do so many amazing things I've been needing to get done. I prepared my backyard for a patio, filled in some holes around my yard, fixed my son's window screen, moved furniture around in my loft to make better use of the space, made about 60 fabric masks for others, trimmed a neighbor's tree for them, organized some old family photos and journals from my parents and grandparents, and spent lots of time playing games and having fun with my family. I'm not sure if I'm the most proud of any one thing, just proud of how much I got done in 1 week! I'm including some pictures of my awesome work! I can't wait to see and hear about what you did. As we did before, please look at the survey each day and mark off what you complete.
For Math, watch this video to get started on GoMath Lesson 10.5-Making Bar Graphs, pages 485-488. https://www.loom.com/share/17b653019b8b4a28a385d7968313b117 I'm hoping to have a fun "Dress up" Zoom meeting on Tuesday or Thursday. Students will be able to dress in something fun, but will still be expected to show respect and appropriate behavior during our meeting. I will have 2 meeting times again, 10:30-11am and 6:30-7pm. Please let me know which day works better for you. |
In Spelling this week, the words are categorized by the kind of syllables they have, open or closed. An OPEN syllable is one that ends in the vowel, and usually makes the vowel say it's name. "Go" is an example of a word that has an open syllable. A CLOSED syllable is one that ends in a consonant and makes the vowel usually say the short sound. "Cat" is an example of a word that has a closed syllable. Sometimes words have both types of syllables, like "robot". RO is open, BOT is closed.

Every School Day:
Wonders Online:
Complete to do list activities, new ones assigned each day. Make sure you look at the story, then go back to the assignment and click "SUBMIT".
Math: Complete the assigned GoMath lesson, then you can work on iReady on your own level (green box).
Dojo: Answer daily question from Mrs. Cobabe
Spelling City: Do one game for spelling words, and one game for high frequency words.
Lexia: Students should still do Lexia 10 minutes a day, or as needed to meet their weekly goal. (Goal information sent out with the passwords email)
Writing: This week we are writing a letter to Mother Nature to tell her how we will take care fo her. Students should come up with 3 ways to help protect the Earth that they can do. Earth Day is next week and I would like them to be able to do some or all of their ideas. I have traditionally read "The Lorax" during the week before we start writing, so I'm including a link to it here.

I'm also including a picture of how we typically display these letters. Please feel free to let students make their own Lorax to top their letter for Art tomorrow.
Writing will need to be submitted by photo through Dojo or email. The files needed to plan and write are linked below. U6W1 is due April 19th.
